ELIZABETH – A judge dropped the drug charges and terrorist threat filed against former Major League baseball player Lenny Dykstra following an altercation with an Uber driver.
A judge dismissed the charges Friday after Dykstra pled guilty to disorderly conduct and fined $ 125.
Dykstra says "happy that this chapter of my life is behind me".
The three-star player, a member of the 1986 New York Mets Championship team, said the pilot had tried to kidnap him in May 2018 in Linden after asking to change the destination of the trip.
The driver told the police that Dykstra was holding a weapon in his head, but no weapons were found.
Dykstra's lawyer, David Bahuriak, had previously described the incident as "outbidding" and that his client was innocent.
Bahuriak had filed a motion to suppress evidence before the judge's decision, claiming that a search by the police of human property was irregular and that there were no witnesses from the alleged threat.
The judge allowed the motion and said to Dykstra, "I hope you learned a lesson."
The driver told NJ.com that it was important that Dykstra plead guilty. He added that Dykstra had "admitted what he had done in my car".
A complaint for removal filed against the driver is pending.
Since retiring from baseball, Dykstra has served a prison sentence for fraud, bankruptcy, large motor vehicle theft and money laundering.
He is actually facing a convocation for renting rooms illegally at home for $ 1,000 each.
