– The National Media Commission (CNM) called for immediate action on the part of the
Police Administration Against Police Who Attacked New Journalists
Times Corporation.
A statement copied in
Ghana News Agency and signed Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo, president of the NMC, said
the offending officers should be arrested without waiting for the victims
identify them.
There should be no
difficulty in identifying the attackers since the journalists were led to
the police station and detained.
The requested statement
that the conduct of the station officer should also be the subject of an investigation – for
know the reason for detaining journalists.
The badault followed
the refusal of a police rider to stop after driving his unregistered motorcycle
in a News Times Corporation vehicle, which was then carrying the vehicle
journalists.
The rider would have
tried to escape but the driver of the vehicle was pursued and caught up.
A misunderstanding
ensues, and other police officers join their colleagues to hit the victim
journalists, detained one for hours and another was hospitalized.
