Heavy fighting erupted in several places between Konkombas and Chokosis in Chereponi district in the Northeast region.
A person is confirmed dead and dozens of mud houses are in flames in the violence that would have been triggered by the attack of a Chokosi, originally from Togo, who came last night to attend a distribution ceremony for his Ghanaian sister.
Wenchike chief Naa Buuba, confirming the skirmishes, said the man from Chokosi had been shot and wounded while returning to Togo on Friday night around 8 pm, after the ceremony.

According to the leader, clashes erupted this morning, Saturday, March 16, in a village called Kwame Nazori, and spread to Tigenga, Nanbon and Tinanboni, where deadly exchanges were still ongoing. He added that several houses had been burned and that a male adult had already been killed.
The police chief said the security forces are currently avoiding villages in distress and are only patrolling the district capital. He called for a rapid reinforcement of security, especially in Wenchiki territory, and said that the population was ready to repel any aggression if security did not guarantee its security.
"Three communities in our area have been burned. Konkombas and Chokosis are still fighting. The soldiers are not there and they are still fighting, "he said. "If the soldiers arrive, it's better, but they did not come …"
Emmanuel Gulari, former president of the Konkomba Youth Association (KoYA), also confirmed the violence. He added that six communities in Konkomba have been burned down, despite the presence of armed security forces.
He called for equity in security to contain the situation.
The fighting comes just four days after Interior Minister Ambrose Dery was informed of the seven-member committee's investigation, led by a former Inspector General of Police, on new charges. clashes and reprisals that occurred last January victims.
However, the latest violence follows tensions exacerbated for weeks after widespread speculation about the reprisals of the two hostile neighbors of the poor district.
Speculation had led students and teachers in Konkomba to leave school campuses in the district capital, where Chokosis are in the majority.

District Director General Tahidu Razak told StarrNews that about 150 men from the combined security were in a state of alert to deal with any escalation.
