The Ningo Traditional Council (NTC) has written to the Ghana Electoral Commission asking it to create a Ningo constituency from Ningo-Prampram.

The district of Greater Accra, which also serves as a district, is made up of the traditional Ningo region and the traditional Prampram region.

Mr. Jonathan Teye Doku, District Director of Ningo-Prampram, revealed this information Thursday at a public meeting in Old-Ningo.

Mr. Doku revealed that this initiative was intended to pave the way for a petition to the government to give Ningo residents their own district.

"The traditional chiefs wrote an official letter to the EC to divide the constituency, and the answer was that it would be examined, but the time had not yet come for the creation of new constituencies", he said. -he declares.

He explained that this decision followed a government opinion addressed to the traditional chiefs who wanted to create their own district because they were not satisfied with the choice of Prampram as the administrative capital of the Ningo Prampram District Assembly. .

In 2012, when the district was separated from Dangme West District at the time, Ningo residents led by politically active young men engaged in a series of demonstrations to protest against Prampram's choice as the administrative capital .

They disengaged themselves from the process and authority of local governments by adopting a number of strategies, including to prevent NIPDA revenue managers from settling in the region, which would have resulted in the closure of the local government. local area council.

Traditional leaders in the region have also refused to participate in Assembly programs at Prampram.

Mr. Doku pointed out that "under the Local Government Act, a constituency could not belong to more than one constituency, thus making it impossible for Ningo-Prampram to have more than one constituency. a constituency as long as she remained in that constituency.

He therefore urged the residents of Ningo to be patient and allow the EC to follow the established processes for the consideration of his candidacy.

The seat of the Ningo-Prampram constituency is currently occupied by Samuel George Nartey, member of the National Democratic Congress.
