Two students from the University of Winneba Education were arrested for defying a directive to leave the school premises.

The school was closed on Thursday, March 15, 2019 as a result of violent student protests, after which students had until 18 hours to leave the school.

According to the Central Regional Police's DSP Irene Oppong, the two students were arrested in the corridors after the police went to routine checks on campus.

She explained that both had been arrested because there were activities after six in the evening that could be related to these two individuals.

"We went to close the conference and their halls [of residence] and in the process, two people were still here after 18 hours and there were some ongoing activities that we think could be related, that's why they were chosen, " she says.

They were handed over to the Winneba Police Command as investigations continue.
