Violence is not the way to resolve conflict, says government to Chereponi factions in conflict

Accra, March 18, GNA – Government says
factions in conflict in Chereponi that violence is not the way to solve everything
challenges in society.

This follows further clashes between
Konkombas and Chokosis in the Chereponi District of the Northeast Region
the weekend.

The minister speaking in front of reporters during a media meeting in Accra on Sunday said
Security personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent the continuation of
escalation of violence.

He said after peace and order has been
restored to the region efforts would be made to understand the underlining
factors and solve it once and for all.

The minister said that when people resort to
violence in the resolution of their disputes the law of the land must take its
course.

He said that the government would study the report
submitted by the Committee, which was charged with investigating the fundamental cause of
against violence in Chereponi and to implement its recommendations to guarantee
peace and harmony in the region.

Up to now, two people have been reported dead,
while seven houses were burned and residents fled the area.

Last year, a fight broke out between
Chokosis and Konkombas on a piece of land in Chereponi District, resulting
in some victims.

Commenting on the attack of three Ghanaians
Journalists of some police officers, Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah said that the badault should
to be condemned by all.

He said that he had had discussions with the publisher
from the Ghanaian Times Newspaper and asked the editor to write to the Ministry
so that efforts are made to speed up investigations on the issue for the
disciplinary sanctions necessary to take against the guilty parties.

Oppong-Nkrumah also condemned a viral video
circulating on social media showing a policeman attacked by a
commercial driver and his driver.

He said he badaulted a police officer
various consequences and expressed the hope that the police administration
investigate the issue and bring the authors to book.

He urged the police administration to speed up
action on both incidents.
