Fernandes, which had 670,000 subscribers, announced its decision in a series of tweets on Sunday, reports CNN.
"The amount of hatred that prevails in social media sometimes exceeds the good," he said in a tweet.
"Facebook could have done more to stop some of that."
On March 15, the alleged gunman attended for at least 17 minutes to a continuous broadcast of his mbadacre in one of the two mosques.
The New Zealand police alerted Facebook about the live broadcast, and Facebook said that she had quickly removed the shooter's account and the video.
But that was not enough for Fernandes. Although the CEO claimed to be a "social media fan", the broadcast feed caused him to leave Facebook.
"It's a great platform to communicate," he tweeted. "A strong and very useful commitment, but New Zealand was too difficult for all other issues."
On Saturday, Facebook announced the removal of 1.5 million videos of the attack.
