A "trotro" driver and his companion who were captured on video badaulting a police officer, agent Julius Mawuli Ekpe, on Mallam-Kasoa Road in Accra were arrested.

The video, turned viral, shows two civilians attacking the policeman, who was wearing a helmet, as a result of a misunderstanding.
In the video of about six seconds, the policeman was seen being punched by two young men near a parked white Sprinter bus and motorcycle, while locals Good Samaritans have been seen trying to separate them.

The driver, identified as Francis Buabeng, and his companion, Albert Ansah, who fled the scene and hid, were
stopped a day after the incident.

The suspects, who are in custody at the Odorkor District Police Station, will appear in Weija City Court today on four counts of conspiracy to commit a crime, badault on a public officer, of damage to the police and obstruction.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, Ms. Effia Tenge, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, said at approximately 1:30 pm On March 14, 2019, Constable Ekpe, who is attached to the regional unit of visibility of Accra, was on duty on the Mallam-Kasoa road when he saw a vehicle parked in the middle of the road near the Weija junction.

It added that the Sprinter bus, registered GR 8555-14, had Buabeng at the driver's seat, while the latter loaded the vehicle in the middle of the road, thus hindering other road users.

Ms. Tenge stated that when Constable Ekpe asked the driver to move the vehicle, he refused, which resulted in a misunderstanding between them.

During the process, two accidents occurred. In the first case, one vehicle crashed against another, while in the second case, a motorcycle struck a private vehicle.

She said that the driver of the Sprinter bus, aware of the danger, had run away, while Constable Ekpe, who was driving a motorcycle, pursued and eventually caught up with him. at the intersection of the Mallam fire.
A fight broke out between the police officer on the one hand and the driver and his companion on the other.

The officer reportedly requested reinforcements, but before his arrival, the driver and his companion abandoned their vehicle and fled, leaving the pbadengers in the vehicle to their fate.

The complaints

The vehicle was towed to the traffic and motor transport department of Odorkor, after which the officer filed a complaint against the driver with the Odorkor District Police.

Unbeknownst to Constable Ekpe, the driver and his companion had also lodged a complaint with the Mallam police, stating that they had been badaulted by a police officer, after which a medical certificate had been given to them.

One day after the incident, Ms. Tenge stated that the owner of the vehicle, whose name had been withheld, went to Odorkor's MTTD to pick up the vehicle, but was forced to produce the driver and his companion.
