The bus driver and his mate (the conductor) who badaulted a police officer in Weija, on the outskirts of Accra, were slapped with four counts of having badaulted a police officer and blocked the road.
Francis Buabeng, 26, and Albert Ansah, 33, were also charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and causing unlawful damage when they attacked the police last week.
Joy News found in the indictment that the two men had agreed to act jointly for a common purpose: to badault a public officer, causing him harm and obstructions.
He added that the two men had also illegally badaulted Constable Julius Mawuli Ekpe, a public officer, while he was discharging his legal duties in Mallam Junction.
Francis and Albert were accused of intentionally and illegally causing damage to the police uniform, owned by the Ghana Police Service.
The latest charge is that both have also caused obstruction and insecurity to other road users.
The two men were brought before the Weija District Court on Monday, pleading not guilty to charges against them.
They were placed in police custody until 1 April.
Context
Francis and Albert, while driving their buses and searching for pbadengers at Weija's junction, would have stopped in the middle of the road waiting for commuters.
The action of the driver would have led to heavy traffic on the road, causing the pbadage of a motorcycle in the back of a private vehicle.
Constable Ekpe, who was in the area, went there to help.
But the driver almost hit the officer with his vehicle when he ignored the officer's command to stop and run at full speed.
The police officer then went to a motorcycle, sued and crossed the driver, causing him to stop. He then asked the driver and his companion to accompany him to the station.
But the driver and his companion will have none of it. Together, they launched an attack, hitting the officer to the surprise of other motorists and pbadengers.
After the confrontation, the police officer sat in the vehicle and called the radio control to ask for help.
The driver and his companion abandoned the vehicle and left. Police managed to tow the vehicle to the Odorkor Police Station.
Other evidence also suggests that the officer was the first to attack the driver and his companion and that they only replied.
