The UFC star, Conor McGregor, paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo in describing how the star of Juventus is dedicated to football as "inspiring".

McGregor – the first man in history to hold two UFC titles at the same time – is not one who admires many people.

In the same interview with FIFA, "The Notorious" mocked comparisons with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, claiming that the LA Galaxy star "is trying to be the Conor McGregor of football".

But the mega fan of Manchester United has not hidden his admiration for Ronaldo, who has already spent time training with McGregor.

Ronaldo's performance against Atletico Madrid last week, in which he managed a hat trick to send Juventus into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, impressed the Irishman.

"Cristiano is an athlete, a person and a phenomenal entrepreneur," he told FIFA.

"His overall discipline, his perfectionist attitude and dedication to his craft are inspiring and have inspired many young children to play football.

"Look at what he did recently in the Champions League at age 34, a hat trick under the lights when there was pressure for all the balls.

"And against Atletico Madrid, one of the best defensive teams in Europe, it is inspiring!

"We are both disciplined athletes at the top of our game."

Growing up as a fan of United in Ireland, it should not be surprising that McGregor loves the "Irish legends" Denis Irwin and Roy Keane.

Marcus Rashford celebrates the score in Paris

Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford were particularly impressed by the stars of Old Trafford, especially since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took office.

McGregor added, "They [Pogba and Rashford] are young, confident and fearless athletes who believe in their abilities.

"Look at how Rashford, at age 21, has never taken a penalty [for United]After a long delay and with the weight of the world on his shoulders, he stepped up and scored against PSG.

"What a night, go on, men!"
