(Reuters) – Nvidia Corp. chip designer said Monday it has signed a partnership with Softbank Group Corp. and LG Uplus Corp. to deploy cloud game servers in Japan and Korea later this year.
Nvidia manufactures graphics chips for PCs and laptops that give video games a more realistic appearance. Today, the company places these same chips in data center servers so that players who do not have an Nvidia chip in their computer can play games from the data center.
At a conference in San Jose, California, Nvidia said he created a "pod" of graphics cards that can support up to 10,000 streaming players.
The company said Softbank and LG Uplus would use the cards for their services to allow customers to play games on 5G networks, the next generation of wireless data networks.
