Finally, Atiku, petitioner of the party PDP against APC, INEC, contesting the re-election of Buhari

Nineteen days after the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the presidential election on February 23, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and his party finally filed an election petition.

Atiku and his party dispute the re-election of Buhari because of alleged mbadive arrangements, abusive practices and non-compliance with electoral laws.

In the petition tabled tonight, the main part of the prayer was for Atiku to be declared the winner of the February 23 presidential election.

They also prayed alternately that the Presidential Election Court (PEPT) cancel the election and order a new election to be held in accordance with the provisions of the electoral law.

The defendants in the lawsuit are the All Progressive Congress, APC, Buhari and INEC.

Although the copy of the petition can not be obtained at the time of the submission of this report, the PDP's national counsel, Emmanuel Enoidem, confirmed to the journalists before the Court of Appeal, where the PEPT is located, that the petition was filled.

Enoidem said that the PDP and its presidential candidate had already badembled a powerful legal team, consisting of 20 senior SAN lawyers from Nigeria and other lawyers who would establish the fact of the petition.

He also revealed that over 400 witnesses had been gathered to testify at the hearing of the petition.

In collaboration, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, further stated that the petition was strong, strong and unbadailable.
