How Coutinho, Can, Karius and Liverpool players sold by Jurgen Klopp in 2018 have evolved

Jurgen Klopp has propelled Liverpool from the top four players to the title contenders in 2018/19 – and the tremendous progress made by the Reds has been supported by excellent transfer activities.

Klopp and Liverpool showed their ambition this summer by beating the goalkeeper's world record at Alisson in July – only seven months after the Reds paid £ 75 million to Southampton for Virgil van Dijk.

But it's not just the recipes that made the headlines. Liverpool was not afraid to make bold decisions when it came to selling players, getting 145 million pounds of Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho and allowing Emre Can to run his contract and pbad for free to Juventus.

Loris Karius was also replaced a few months after his mistakes in the final of the Champions League.

But how did they go?

Philippe Coutinho

What happened? Brazilian striker Philippe Coutinho decided that after four years in Anfield, it was enough. He wanted to go out and he wanted a dream move to Barcelona. The saga, and yes, we think that this one is called saga, started in the summer of 2017: the Reds rejected three offers of the Catalan giants and a transfer request from Coutinho.

But after spending six more months at Anfield, he moved to Camp Nou. Barcelona was forced to pay 145 million pounds. Michael Edwards even managed to negotiate an extra £ 100 million when he was trying to buy another Reds player before the match. 2020.

Did it work for Liverpool? In a word, yes. Liverpool has developed as a unit since the departure of Coutinho, improving both nationally and at the European level. Liverpool sometimes missed the individual magic of the small Brazilian, but the Klopp team probably improved in his absence.

Did it work for Coutinho? Coutinho initially struggled to impose himself, failing to impose himself as an automatic choice in the midfield of Ernesto Valverde. But he has recently experienced a resurgence, marking the victory of Barcelona on Lyon in the Champions League.

Overall, it was not great for Coutinho, who even confessed that he was not playing well, but you would not want him to reverse the situation in 2019.

Loris Karius

What happened? Kiev. We will not say any more. Loris Karius would then leave for Besiktas with a two-year loan agreement with the Turkish club obliged to buy the German if certain criteria were met.

Did it work for Liverpool? 100 per cent. See Danny Ward.

Did it work for Karius? No. Karius continued to struggle in Besiktas, making a number of notorious mistakes and criticized by his own director. The German has officially lodged a complaint with FIFA for unpaid wages.

Emre Can

What happened? Emre Can refused to sign a new contract in Liverpool and the Reds were cool, leaving the German midfielder free for Juventus at the end of the season.

Did it work for Liverpool? The name of Emre Can has barely been mentioned in Merseyside since his departure, and as Liverpool has spent a lot on Fabinho and Naby Keita, he does not seem to be lacking at all.

Did it work for Can? Like Coutinho, the German midfielder appeared to be struggling in his debut with Juventus, but has since begun to become a more regular member of his team. He scored four times in 24 appearances in Serie A.

Mamadou Sakho

What happened? After a year of loan from Crystal Palace, the South London club has finally made Mamadou Sakho's move permanent, paying £ 26 million for his services.

Did it work for Liverpool? Absolutely. The Reds have pocketed £ 26 million for Sakho's services and currently have the best defensive record in the Premier League.

Did it work for Sakho? Yes. The Frenchman is a regular starter for Roy Hodgson's team and has recently returned to the national setup. So everyone is happy.

Danny Ward

What happened? During the summer, it seems that Danny Ward has a chance in Liverpool, but the Reds then made Alisson sign in Rome and the Welsh was sold to Leicester City.

Did it work for Liverpool? Another complete success for the Reds. Alison has been excellent since coming to Anfield and Liverpool has cashed around £ 13m for Ward.

Did it work for Ward? Not exactly. The Welsh exchanged his position in Liverpool against that of Leicester, Kasper Schmeichel remaining the number one Fox. It remains to be seen if former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will take him back to the starting lineup.

Danny Ings

What happened? Liverpool has allowed Danny Ings to join Southampton on a loan deal late in the summer transfer window, with the Reds guaranteeing a £ 20 million fee for the services of the attacker.

Did it work for Liverpool? Another success. Daniel Sturridge has become a convenient reserve for Liverpool and the Reds' free front continues to fire. No dramas.

Did it work for Ings? He began as a fire house, scoring seven goals in 13 games. Injuries prevented him from progressing and did not score in 2019.

Ragnar Klavan

What happened? Liverpool has allowed Estonian defender Ragnar Klavan to join Cagliari for 2 million pounds this summer, after two years of service.

Did it work for Liverpool? Yes. Joe Gomez became Virgil van Dijk's first choice partner, and with Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as other options, as well as young duos Conor Masterson and Nat Phillips, Jurgen Klopp is well stocked at the center.

Did it work for Klavan? Not yet. Klavan was hit by an injury to Achilles all season, playing only 10 times for Cagliari.
