I was upset this morning that my new iPhone 4 was not working with my beloved TomTom Car Kit – the best iPhone car charger / base, without exception.

The iPhone 4 is in the support, but it does not load. Discovering this has filled me with disappointment. I like it TomTom Car Kit (which costs 100 USD but is well worth it). It contains the iPhone exactly where I want it for navigation and music. It charges the iPhone and amplifies the GPS signal during the excellent navigation application of TomTom. And it does not move, even if I clumsily hit the screen of the iPhone with my big fingers sausage.

I am therefore delighted to find a simple and inexpensive solution to the problem of loading: a small band of velcro.

As Engadget tip Ben Peabad Martin Alaniz discovered that you cut a small strip of velcro (the soft side) and stuck it to the back of the car kit bracket, just behind the docking station connector.

There is no need to attach anything to the iPhone itself. Velcro acts as a cushion keeps the mobile part of the base flat, pushing the electrical contacts of the car kit against that of the iPhone. Simple and cheap.

Here is a video showing how it works:
