The board of directors of the University of Education, Winneba, defended the dismissal of three lecturers, which triggered a violent protest and the indefinite closure of the school.
At a press conference held to formally respond to several allegations and media reports surrounding the layoffs, Board member John Darko dismissed reports that the dismissal was inspired by revenge.
Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Director of the College of Language Teaching, who would have been dismissed for not cooperate with members of management.
Local President of the Association of University Teachers of Ghana (UTAG), Mr. Frimpong Kakyire Duku, allegedly fired after filing a lawsuit against his employerwithout cause "and without exhausting internal procedures.
Dr. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, a former member of the university board, was fired for disrespecting the board and for refusing to support his decisions.
But the board of governors came out to explain.
He described as exaggeration UTAG's allegation that at least 30 members of the teaching and non-teaching staff were dismissed. Anthony Afful-Broni was appointed vice-chancellor in March 2018.

He added that there were only a few days left before the official announcement of the agreement, pointing out that he had "no doubt" about the recall, which would also include the 30 others who were fired.
Four days later, the Governing Council has given the strongest indication so far, that the status quo remains unchanged.
The Governing Council stated that those wishing to petition for their dismissal were free to do so. They will refer their problems to the appropriate committees so that they catch their attention.
According to dispelled information, the Vice Chancellor sacked the three members, the chairman of the board, Professor Nicholas Abakah, clarified that the dismissal was a decision of the Board of Governors, whose VC is only a member of the Board. a member
He congratulated the vice-chancellor for instilling greater discipline at the university one year after taking office.
Rejecting the calls for the resignation of the Vice Chancellor, the Board of Governors urged him to continue because he has all his support to complete his term ending in 2022.
He stated that the UTAG should allow the Board of Directors to perform its functions and roles, emphasizing that the Board does not share power with any other person.
The board of directors also estimates that the damage on school grounds during the events amounted to 250 000 cedis.
