Sir Alex Ferguson retains Manchester United, says Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Football

Ferguson retired in 2013 after winning 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League trophies during an unprecedented 26-year reign. Since then, he has witnessed the fight for United's constancy.

Under three separate managers – all of whom seemed to want to stand out from the Ferguson scheme – United failed to win a league title five times, finishing in the top four on three occasions.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has never hesitated to mention the "gaffer" since taking office in December, inviting his former manager to the training ground and cloakroom once.

But the former United striker, Ibrahimovic, believes this approach is wrong, telling the Mirror: "Everything that happens is judged by the Ferguson era.

"They say if Ferguson was here it would not happen, Ferguson would not do it like that, Ferguson would do it like that." Everything was Ferguson.

"If it was me, I would say I no longer have Ferguson, and I come here and I want to make my own story, I want to make my own story."

"So, I do not want to hear what happened before, I want to do it in the present. You come in with a new mentality.

"Ferguson has a place in the history of this club, but now the club continues, it must find its own identity and it is difficult."
