He can not really run iOS, but the latest Nano touch screen has been hacked … and this hacking may very well involve upcoming jailbreaks.
The hack was made by dev James Wheaton, who managed to install another Springboard file allowing him to remove an application from the device.
This may seem like a simple task, but it is not the case: to achieve this feat, Wheaton must find a way around the Nano cache comparison, which badyzes changes to the Springboard file and restores the factory settings of the device if mods are discovered.
In other words, Wheaton has not been able to load a modified Springboard plist file by removing an application that is a big problem … it's bypbading the Nano's anti-modding technology. This means that the next step may well be jailbreaking in good faith.
Wheaton's discoveries do not stop there: he also found hidden support for apps, vCards, calendar events and more in the device's firmware. Even though the Nano will never run custom applications, some of these features might very well be unlocked.
