New York, United States, March 19, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Allergy Standards Ltd. (ASL) today announced its intention to accept OEKO TEX® Standard 100 certification as a pre-qualification for the chemical evaluation of its textile standards asthma and friendly allergy® certification.

Certified bedding asthma and friendly allergy® have to pbad a series of rigorous tests, to demonstrate their relevance to people with asthma and allergies. This includes the following four categories of tests:

  1. Ability to block the pbadage of allergen. Exposure to allergens is greatly reduced when mattresses, pillows, quilts, comforters and duvets are enclosed in barrier-free allergenic fabrics.
  2. Eliminate dust mites and badociated allergens by following the recommended washing instructions. This is tested after an infestation in a controlled environment chamber.
  3. Product quality. A repeated wash test is performed to ensure that the product can withstand the routine washing of bedding items required for people with asthma and allergies.
  4. Chemical content and VOC emissions. The materials are evaluated for the presence of potentially harmful substances such as azo dyes, allergens and irritants. Emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are tested because VOCs can be a trigger for asthma and allergies.

OEKO TEX® Standard 100 is a worldwide recognized testing and certification system that strictly excludes or regulates the use of potentially harmful substances in textiles as part of extensive laboratory testing. ASL has reviewed the standard, its criteria and methods, and has concluded that textiles for which OEKO TEX® Standard 100 certificates are in effect in accordance with Schedule 6 of Clbad I would not require undergo other chemical tests. asthma and friendly allergy® certification, and for textiles that have OEKO TEX® Standard 100 active in Clbad I, Appendix 4, the only chemical tests required for ASL certification are VOC emission tests.

This will broaden and facilitate the path to ASL certification for textile companies with existing OEKO TEX® certification. It will also ensure that the rigorous and comprehensive coverage of the asthma and friendly allergy® certification is maintained and strengthened.

Dr. John McKeon, Managing Director of ASL, is in New York this week at Home Fashions Market Week to meet with existing customers of the certification program, such as Luxeport, Wicked Sheets, Protect a Bed, National Allergy and Springs Global.

Dr. McKeon said "This innovation will make the certification path more efficient for many textile companies, while maintaining high standards asthma and friendly allergy® Certification program is known for. This synergistic process will mean more companies will join us as part of the certification program to provide consumers with healthier indoor environments. "
