Children fight toxic air with schoolbags

Schoolchildren will carry backpacks equipped with built-in air quality sensors to help monitor pollution levels in London.

Some 250 students from five elementary schools will carry the bags to school for a week.

The integrated sensors, which weigh about 1 kg, measure the levels of particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said that this program was the type of "bold and innovative" action needed to fight against air pollution.
