Emmanuel Ndoumbe Bosso, coach of Cameroon's leading club Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen

Bosso, who won the Cameroon Cup in 2013 with the team, was taken hostage while he was heading to a training session at the club stadium.

"Coach Ndoumbe Bosso is loved here in Bamenda and we do not think anyone will want to hurt him," said BBC Sport, club president, Yong Jacques.

"We have canceled the two training sessions scheduled today and the club is working closely with all interested parties to ensure the safety of our coach."

The club confirmed that he had not yet been contacted to claim ransom.

The Yong Sports Academy is based in Bamenda, one of Cameroon's two English-speaking regions, where secessionists have been fighting government forces for almost three years to claim independence.

Although the number of kidnappings in the region has increased in recent months, it is the first kidnapping of a football official.

The Yong Sports Academy is tied with 12 points, with UMS Loum at the top of Pool B of the Cameroon Championship after the first phase of the league.

As an badistant coach, he won the Cameroon Cup in 1997 with the Douala Union, before winning the Cameroon champion title, Sable de Batie, two years later.
