A jury of the San Francisco Federal Court concluded that the Roundup weed killer was an important factor in the cancer of a California man.
The unanimous verdict on Tuesday (US time) resulted in a lawsuit that, according to plaintiffs' lawyers, could help determine the fate of hundreds of similar lawsuits against the maker of Roundup, the US giant. Agribusiness Monsanto.
The second jury said that Roundup was at the origin of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Another jury reached this conclusion last year and allocated 289 million US dollars (422 million New Zealand dollars) to the plaintiff, DeWayne Johnson.

Tuesday's verdict concerned Edwin Hardeman, 70 years old.
The judge who was watching Hardeman's trial divided the trial into two phases. Hardeman's lawyers first had to convince jurors that his use of Roundup was an important factor in his non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
The trial will now go to the damage phase.
