Who are the new players that make up the German team?

Poor old Joachim Low just can not do things right now.

For months, Low was pilloried for sticking to seasoned players and failing to integrate the many German talents after the World Cup debacle of last summer.

This month, he finally called for sending three veterans to Mats Hummels, Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng. He is now accused of disrespecting the winners of the World Cup.

While many expected him to abandon Manuel Neuer in favor of Marc-André ter Stegen, Low was deceiving everyone by expelling the Bayern trio.

Since then, he has been confronted with many critics, such as Jurgen Klinsmann and Lothar Matthaus, who question the decision made in recent days.

Still, Low insists that he made the right choice and that Germany is well prepared for this new era, saying that he and his team will put "absolute trust" in young players.

With only a handful of 2014 World Cup survivors and three players behind their first international call, the German team for this week's matches against Serbia and Holland might seem a little unknown.

Sportsmail has the lowdown on German players that you may not know very much.

Matthias Ginter (Borussia Monchengladbach)

One of the few winners of the World Cup in the German team, Ginter was an unused replacement when Germany was crowned world champion in 2014, but the triumph still turned his career upside down.

A few days after the final in Rio, he left Freiburg for Borussia Dortmund. After a few years playing the role of central defender, Ginter made an intelligent move in favor of Borussia Monchengladbach, where he flourished in defense and midfield.

Although having only 23 caps to his credit, Ginter is a winner of the World Cup and the Confederations Cup. He can now be counted among the most experienced players on the team.

Thilo Kehrer (Paris Saint-Germain)

The list of talents to have climbed the Schalke ladder in recent years is almost endless. He may not be as glamorous as Leroy Sane, but Kehrer joined the City star in Gelsenkirchen and, like Sane, he won a lot of money in a big club early in his career.

After signing for Paris Saint-Germain, Thomas Tuchel described Kehrer as "the kind of player any coach wants to have," and despite his mistake against Manchester United earlier this month, he remains one of the best young defenders in Europe. Central back for PSG, Low prefers to use Kehrer as a back.

Nico Schulz (Hoffenheim)

After going unnoticed in the early years of his career, Schulz has steadily progressed to the top of his hierarchy.

A fierce midfielder doubled as left – back, Schulz climbed the ladder at Hertha Berlin and endured a disappointing spell at Gladbach before landing at Hoffenheim in 2017.

There, he flourished with young coach Julian Nagelsmann and earned his spot on the national team. Last year, he had scored his debut in a 2-1 win over Peru in his stadium.

Niklas Sule (Bayern Munich)

All eyes will be on Niklas Sule on Wednesday. The center back of Bayern should take the place of his teammates, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels.

Back centered and imposing, Sule is a quick and intelligent defender who has done well to break the Hummels-Boateng partnership in Bayern for the last two years.

Last week, Low said he was expecting more from Sule now that the veteran couple was out of the equation, saying he should "organize and run" the bottom line.

Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen)

Once touted as the next big defensive talent in Germany, Tah has been replaced by Antonio Rudiger of Sule and Chelsea in recent years, but he remains a competent and strong center, although subject to mistakes.

Tah is a regular starter for Bayer Leverkusen. He finds himself catapulted into the hierarchy by Hummels and Boateng's dismissal and may legitimately claim to be fighting for a place in the starting lineup.

Niklas Stark (Hertha Berlin)

After receiving his first international call on Friday, Stark quickly made a costly mistake in Borussia Dortmund's 3-2 defeat of Hertha on Saturday, but he is usually an intelligent and lucid defender.

His constant rise in the youth teams of Berlin and Germany allows him to be on the verge of making his international debut for some time.

This season could prove to be a decisive year for him. Borussia Dortmund would be interested in a signing this summer.

Marcel Halstenberg (RB Leipzig)

Halstenberg suffered a tragic setback last year, when he had a torn cruciate ligament shortly after his international debut, and missed the rest of the season and the World Cup.

Still, the complete RB Leipzig file is back in business and should be part of Low's initial training. With defensive options on the ground and Cologne's defenseman Jonas Hector also absent, Halstenberg is likely to make up for lost time in the coming months.

Lukas Klostermann (RB Leipzig)

Halstenberg's teammate made a remarkable performance at his first press conference as a German player on Tuesday, and Low hopes he will be able to emulate that on the pitch.

He and Halstenberg are used to teaming up for RB Leipzig. Even though it was his first senior command, he gained valuable international experience at the 2016 Olympics.

Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen)

Brandt has been in the radar of some of the best European clubs for years, but he surprised everyone at the same time last year when he signed a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen.

A versatile forward who can play on the wing or in the middle of the pitch, Brandt's movement and technique make him one of the most exciting young players on this team.

Although Leroy Sane was eliminated from the World Cup team last summer, he proved to be one of the few German players to appear dangerous in Russia.

Maximilian Eggestein (Werder Bremen)

Eggestein has been known to Werder Bremen for a year or two.

Last weekend, he secured his fourth badist of the season, helping Bremen win a crucial victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

He normally plays alongside his brother Johannes in Bremen, but Eggestein will be alone when he joins the German squad for the very first time in Wolfsburg this week.

Leon Goretzka (Bayern Munich)

Goretzka has long been one of the most prominent talents in German football and he is becoming a leader in the Bayern midfielder.

Having previously played a larger role, Goretzka was promoted to the number 10 role at Schalke last season and flourished in the role at Bayern this term.

A key player in the triumph of the Confederations Cup, he expects his gazelle races to be the spearhead of the German midfielder for many years.

Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen)

Havertz is another offensive midfielder who has not yet reached his potential.

However, he has had a good season so far, putting Leverkusen in a tough first half of the season and leading his recent comeback with six goals in his last 10 games. Another tall and dapper character, he is a useful reinforcement for Goretzka.

Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)

German captain in waiting, Joshua Kimmich has taken the plunge, rising from a talent to a world star in recent years.

Pep Guardiola is one of the few young people in the country to succeed Philipp Lahm for Bayern and Germany as a worthy successor.

Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich)

English fans will have little need to know Gnabry, who showed promising signs to Arsenal before sitting in West Brom and returning to his home country.

He flourished in the Bundesliga, including Bremen and Hoffenheim before becoming Arjen Robben 's heir to Bayern Munich.

At just 23 years old, Gnabry has a bright future ahead of him and will be a formidable weapon for Germany in the years to come.
