Super wide angle lens for micro four thirds

For May 2019, Laowa announced a super wide angle lens with f / 2.8 f / 2.8 for Micro Four Thirds cameras. The focal length of 9 mm corresponds to – converted to small format – 18 mm. The focus and the aperture selection are only manual.

According to the manufacturer, the lens offers almost distortion-free images and excellent corner illumination, since it was originally developed with its larger image circle for APS cameras -C. Similar versions are already available for cameras with connectors for Fuji X, Sony E, Canon EF-M and DJI DL.

The optical system comprises 15 elements divided into 10 groups, including two aspherical lenses and three ultra-low dispersion lenses.

With a length of 60 mm and a diameter of only 53 mm, the lens is very compact and its weight at just 215 grams is extremely lightweight. Thanks to the small front lens, all conventional 49 mm diameter Einschraubfilter filters can be used.

The manual focus lens is also suitable for shooting, for example with a Panasonic GH5 or Blackmagic BMPCC4K.

The LAOWA 9mm F / 2.8 Zero-D is available from May 2019 at a price of 619 euros. More information is available on the Venus Optics manufacturer's website.
