Sure March 28, 2019 The Biocodex Microbiota Foundation will honor four researchers and their award-winning initiatives to explore the links between our gut microbiome and our disease
REDWOOD CITY, California, March 20, 2019 / PRNewswire / – The Biocodex Microbiota Foundation (BMF), an organization founded by Biocodex and dedicated to inspiring scientific projects that explore the structure and function of the microbiota, has announced the organization of a luncheon luncheon price the March 28 in San Francisco. The event will celebrate four researchers who are conducting innovative research on the role that the microbiota plays in the prevention or treatment of common human health conditions.
The discoveries made in recent years have determined that the human microbiome has a significant impact on our health. For example, more and more research shows that changes in the composition of the intestinal flora can sometimes affect the functioning of the brain. In addition, research indicates that the microbiota of patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is different than that of healthy people.
The theme of the event, "Discovering the link between our intestinal microbiome and various diseases", will highlight two innovative BMF researchers United States subsidiary and two of the Canada subsidiary that has received research grants in the last two years.
Winners of the 2017 Grant, Dr. Rashim Singh (United States) and Dr. Alberto Caminero-Fernandez (Canada), have received grants for their research on food interactions with the microbiota. Dr. Singh is studying the role of the gut microbiome and its constitution in the increased risk of colorectal cancer, while Dr. Caminero-Fernandez strives to prevent and cure inflammatory bowel disease by understanding the microbes involved in metabolism of tryptophan.
The winners of the 2018 grant include Dr. Tao Yang from United States and Dr. Williams Turpin of Canada. Dr. Yang, whose research topic focuses on microbiota interactions in the gut-brain axis, seeks to increase the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs. Dr. Turpin, whose research focuses on the microbiota and therapies for chronic intestinal diseases, is studying specific microbes and their contribution to the onset of Chron's disease.
In addition, members of the Scientific Council of the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation will be present at the event, including: Leo Dieleman of University of Alberta, Dr. Deana Gibson of University of British Columbia, Dr. Ruth Ann Luna of Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Emeran Mayer of University of California at Los Angeles, Dr. Erica Sonnenburg of Stanford Universityand Dr. Elena Verdu of McMaster University.
Drs. Mayer, Sonnenburg and Verdu will speak at the event to discuss their ongoing research initiatives in the field of microbiota and their experience working with the Foundation.
