Kidnappings in English-speaking areas of Cameroon have become common

An entire university football team was kidnapped in the English-speaking region of Cameroon.

The 15 students were kidnapped Wednesday morning by armed men from the University of Buea, in the south-west of the country.

It is difficult to know who is responsible for the kidnappings, which have become frequent because of tensions between separatist groups and government troops.

On Tuesday, a football coach was kidnapped in Bamenda and released.

Raisa Ajeba, a member of the women's football team, said that she was training the same day the team was kidnapped.

She said as soon as she heard about the kidnapping, she ran home.

A spokesman for the Yong Sports Academy in Bamenda said that there was no ransom and that they did not know why his coach Emmanuel Ndoumbe Bosso had been kidnapped Tuesday.

The club's president, Yong Jacques, told BBC Sport: "Coach Ndoumbe Bosso is loved here in Bamenda and we do not think anyone will want to hurt him."

Emmanuel Ngafesen, former Deputy Minister of Justice, was also abducted in Bamenda and has not been found yet.

Last year, the government accused the English-speaking separatists of kidnapping nearly 80 schoolchildren.
