MILWAUKEE – MillerCoors filed a lawsuit against Anheuser-Busch, claiming that his rival based in St. Louis wanted to "scare" the people of Miller Lite and Coors Light by claiming that these beers had corn syrup.
The lawsuit was filed Thursday in federal court in Wisconsin, but the quarrel between the country's two biggest brewers began when Anheuser-Busch aired corn syrup ads during this year's Super Bowl.
Corn syrup is a fermentation aid used by several brewers, including Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors. But there is no more corn syrup in the beers once the fermentation is over.
According to MillerCoors, Anheuser-Busch attacks health-conscious consumers who have a negative connotation of corn syrup, sometimes confusing it with high-fructose corn syrup in sodas. MillerCoors wants a judge to order Anheuser-Busch to stop commercials.
Anheuser-Busch did not immediately respond to an email requesting a comment.
