More than 70 passengers killed in an accident in Tamale-Kintampo

MyNewsGh.com can confirm that more than 70 pbadengers lost their lives instantly aboard two buses that clashed in the early hours of Friday, March 22, 2019 on the Tamale-Kintampo highway.

The accident occurred in Amoma Nkwanta, a village located near Kintampo, in the Kintampo North municipality of the Bono Est region, along the main Kintampo-Tamale road.

It was confirmed that a VVIP Kia bus bearing Garu's registration number GT 3915-17, in the Far East region, heading towards Kumasi, collided with a bus Grandbird registered GT 5694-18 coming from Accra and heading towards Bolgantaga Eastern Region.

The cause of the collision is unclear, but it is badumed that one of the drivers fell asleep and made his way in the path of the other in the opposite direction.

All pbadengers, including those who were aboard one of the buses en route from Garu to Kumasi, were burned without any recognition when the vehicle caught fire soon after the accident .

The other bus, wearing the VVIP mark and painted in red, veered into a ditch after the collision, killing dozens of people on board.

At the time of writing this story, the exact number of deceased pbadengers had not been established, but MyNewsGh.com can report that only a handful survived the carnage.

Spectators and pbadersby moaned as police and firefighters retrieved what was left of the wreckage and saved the survivors.

Kintampo Municipality Fire Chief (DO3), Mr. Ankomah Twene, confirmed to MyNewsGh.com the unfortunate incident.

Survivors were transported to Jema Public Hospital, Kintampo Public Hospital and Holy Family Hospital for medical care.
