MedStar Health settles the retrocession case of a US patient for $ 35 million

MedStar Health Inc., the largest health care system in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, has agreed to pay $ 35 million to resolve claims that it has bribed a group of cardiologists in exchange for referral of patients for cardiac surgery.

The settlement, announced Thursday by the US Department of Justice, also resolves the claim that a doctor at MedStar Hospital in Union Memorial in Baltimore would have performed a medically unnecessary heart stent procedure.
