Discovery CEO David Zaslav sees pay rise to $ 129.4 million in 2018 – Variety

Discovery Inc. President and CEO David Zaslav is back in the news for a mbadive compensation program.

Zaslav's compensation for 2018 reached $ 129.44 million in 2018, fueled by stock options and grants granted, with the long-time head of Discovery having signed a new employment contract last July that lead it until 2023 to the cable programming group.

Zaslav received $ 102 million of Discovery stock options under this new contract, as well as additional share awards of $ 14.8 million. He received a bonus of $ 9 million and a regular salary of $ 3 million.

Most of Zaslav's stock-based compensation will not materialize for years and only if Discovery's stock increases. Nevertheless, the nine-digit number will certainly be strongly criticized by watch groups and corporate advocacy groups that focus on the issue of income inequality.

The increase in shares should make Zaslav the highest paid media officer. But this is not his personal record. In 2014, thanks to a new contract, all of Zaslav's compensation amounted to $ 156 million. In 2017, Zaslav received $ 42.2 million.

Discovery shares rose sharply in 2018, driven by growth after a slowdown in 2016 and 2017 and the impact of Discovery's acquisition of Scripps Networks Interactive.
