Sportwatch: AFLW preliminary final, first round AFL, NRL and more – live! | sport

NRL: If you stick to the rugby league, Mitch Cleary's personal reflection on living with a sport-induced concussion at the beginning of the week is well worth your time if you have not seen it yet.

After a week of MRIs and scans, a doctor reported an abnormality on a brainwave diagram and said, "Epilepsy." A form of it, anyway. The doctor said that he would not have known where to look if I had not mentioned the cricket incident. Apparently he was dormant. It took both of those shots to carry it. These are the only two crises I have had, but I can not say that I have not played rugby or cricket, or approached my head, either in the past.

AFL: He remains tight against the MCG at a quarter to three, but the Power still has his nose in front of the demons, leading by eight points. Travis Boak and Tom Rockliff see the ball deep, while Justin Westhoff is the top scorer of the match with three. This one promises to be a biting nail.

Locust: After appearing very far from this year's World Cup a few weeks ago, Australia is suddenly one of the contenders. The momentum was built overnight with another victory, this time on Pakistan in Sharjah. Australian rivals will not have liked to see Aaron Finch confirm his return to form after a century.

Tennis: The Miami Open is one of the biggest events on the circuit, a Masters 1000 ATP Tour and a Premier Mandatory of the WTA Tour. He comes immediately after fifteen so prestigious at Indian Wells and concludes the opening quarter of the season.

In the men's draw, two shocks have already taken place: last week's winner Dominic Thiem and fifth seed Kei Nishikori both bowed earlier. As for the Australians, Nick Kyrgios was in good shape ahead of Alexander Bublik, but Bernard Tomic and John Millman were defeated, while Alex de Minaur was a non-starter for the disease. Jordan Thompson will face a tough game in the second round against top seed Karen Khachanov tomorrow.

The attractiveness of women has also had its share of shock. The top two teams, Elina Svitolina and Aryna Sabalenka, both came out with a stack of lower seeds, which also failed in the second week. Serena Williams needed three sets to keep up the pace while current star Bianca Andreescu continues to win, although she has not been ranked yet.

Good news for the Australians with Alja Tomljanović who represents Sabalenka and qualifies for the third round. Ash Barty and Sam Stosur join her, the latter guaranteeing one Australian in the last 16.

NRL: Sharks vs. Sharks Titans is underway during the first action of the day against the NRL. We now have confirmation that this will be one of the last games of the career of Paul Gallen, legend of Cronulla.

AFL: The first half of the first men's competition of the day and one of the favorites of the Melbourne flag are second to none against the impressive Port Adelaide at the MCG. The Dees are in the lineup (6.5) 41 at Power (6.8) 44. Travis Boak is leading the standings for all players on the stats sheet at the main break.

AFLW: Carlton's preliminary final against Fremantle is now underway. The Blues are on the board early with some backs.

Can Tayla Harris hit it? Yes, she can.

AFLW: You do not need me to tell you that the world is in a strange place right now, you just have to log in and watch in disbelief that the kick of an elite athlete is the news which deserves the comments of the Prime Minister.

Preamble

Jonathan Howcroft

Hello everyone and welcome to a new generation of sport, ripe and juicy, ready to be harvested at the last Saturday Sportwatch. I'm Jonathan Howcroft and I'll be with you in the afternoon, before Megan Maurice takes over tonight. You can contribute to the games and the fun of the day (that is to say, push me to let me know that I miss something) via Twitter – @JPHowcroft– or by email – [email protected].

So, what's up this afternoon? Well, there is a pile of football, topped by the AFLW Preliminary Final between Carlton and Fremantle at Ikon Park. It will start soon and I will watch it closely.

There are also two AFL men's matches under my watch, including the current matches. Melbourne vs Port Adelaide and from 4:35 pm Adelaide against Hawthorn.

In the NRL we have Cronulla against Gold Coast at 15h and Newcastle vs Penrith at 5.30 pm

I should still be there for a bit of Super Rugby later also with the Hurricanes welcoming Stormers at 5.30 pm

Of this, we have the Golden Slipper at 16:30, a meeting that could also see the penultimate exit of the incomparable Winx.

Then there is the last round of the Sheffield Shield home season Sydney Surf Pro, the Miami Open Tennis, and many actions to catch up overnight, including a landslide victory for the Olyroos.

I'm exhausted, I'm just thinking about all this. So reinstall yourself, join in and savor one of those days that makes Australian sports landscape the envy of the world.
