He continued: "I have instructed the Attorney General to submit to Parliament, as soon as possible, specific legislation to combat vigilance and provide for appropriate sanctions."

The president called on the Ghana Police Service to fully support law enforcement and added, "We owe it to the people of Ghana and to the unborn generations, to guarantee the peace and stability of the country.

He said that the question of law and order was crucial to ensure national stability and that the government would do everything in its power to ensure that the country has a force of its own. competent police.

President Akuffo-Addo said three helicopters were being purchased to facilitate the work of the police in the country and that, in fact, some police would be trained to become pilots.

President Akuffo-Addo said that the construction of a new national detective training academy in Kenyase, number one in the Brong Ahafo region, to compete with the US equivalent of the academy of FBI training was underway.

"We have promoted 1,502 senior police officers and 18,853 junior officers since taking office in 2017, including more than 2,230 in the first quarter of 2019."

He added that the construction of 320 housing for officers of the National Police Training Academy was also underway.

President Akuffo-Addo said that 4,000 police officers had been recruited, 2,000 of whom were already in training.

He said that "the government has so far provided 320 vehicles to the police service, of which 273 will be delivered soon.

In other areas, the president said that police officers would no longer suffer delays in their promotion, adding: "Under my administration, the period during which a police officer stays longer than the four years provided without being promoted is over.

"Once you are waiting for a promotion, you will be promoted."

President Akuffo-Addo spoke of the well-being of police personnel and said that going on vacation was a right and not a privilege for police personnel.

He added that it was necessary to take into account the fact that exhaustion could affect the quality of work, harm health and even lead to death.

"If the demands of the work prevent an officer from going on leave, it must be postponed to a later date," said President Akuffo-Addo.

He stressed that public relations between the police and the police were essential to the effectiveness of maintaining order, adding that without the collaboration of the two parties, effective maintenance of order could not be achieved. to be realized.

He described as a good initiative a safety leadership development program announced by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu, in which workshops were organized for officers selected from the police and other related security agencies under the Ministry of the Interior.
