Johnson Avuletey, deputy minister-designate for the Volta region, resigned Wednesday (March 20th) to a previous statement that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was a taboo in the Volta region.

Avuletey said that it was a lapse of time and excused himself.

"The party I belong to is a taboo in the Volta region. It's a tongue bit; I am sorry," he testified before the Parliament's Appointments Committee in Accra, before which he appeared for verification.

Ghanaweb.com reports that its retraction followed a question from Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, a member of the Nominating Committee and Member of Parliament for Asawase District in the Ashanti region, who said during the meeting. from an earlier statement that the NPP was a taboo in the Volta region.

Alhaji Muntaka pointed out that Michael Yaw Jato, MP for Krachi East of the Volta region, is in Parliament on the NPP's list of candidates.

After the retraction and apologies, Alhaji Muntaka explained that the presence of the NPP is recognized in the Volta region and that it obtained about 100,000 votes in the last elections.

Similarly, he represents the population of the Asawase district in the Ashanti region, where the NPP is more popular than the NDC, but for him, the Ashanti region is a stronghold of the NDC and for that, he had asked his party to work to improve his electoral gains in the Ashanti region.

Alhaji Muntaka then urged politicians to be aware of making statements that unite the people rather than divide it.
