A SHAKEN mother described the horrible moment when her BMW exploded on a double carriageway with her baby and toddler sitting at the back.
Sara Longley and her husband Stuart desperately struggled to rescue nine-month-old Eleanor and 3-year-old Adam when the car broke down and smoke came out of the vents.

The family managed to get out of the BMW 3 Series a few minutes before it caught fire.
Sara told the Mail: "It was terrifying. The only thing that kept me in mind when the car started to smoke is the kids and get them out of the car.
"If BMW knew there was a problem and sat on it, which caused the fire, it put our lives in danger."
The mother of two was driving using the speed control system of the car on 50 mph.
She first noticed a problem when the car started to slow down and stopped responding to its pressure on the accelerator.
In a few seconds, the smoke started to come out of the engine and enter the vehicle through the vents.
It was terrifying. When the car started smoking, I was only thinking about the kids and getting them out of the car.

Sara and Stuart jumped out of the vehicle in a panic after managing to direct him to the side of the road.
They immediately tried to release their two children at the back, but realized that child safety was still on and the only way to save them was to get into the smoking vehicle.
The couple was able to bypbad the locks from the inside and bring their children to safety moments before the flames engulfed the BMW.
Sara, a public relations employee, added, "We were lucky to be on a two-lane road. I'm afraid to think about what would have happened if we had to get two kids out of the car and onto a highway.
"BMW has to sort these cars before there is a fatality."

The car is thought to have been affected by a potentially fatal failure of the exhaust gas cooling system near the engine.
This malfunction has affected approximately 1.6 million BMW worldwide, including 268,000 in the UK.
BMW began contacting drivers last October, but the Longleys only received their security letter on March 8, according to reports.
A week later, the car, whose BMW garage in Stanstead, Esbad, had a long history of service, caught fire while visiting her family in Grantham, Lincolnshire.
Two fire trucks and the police arrived quickly to extinguish the flames.

Fuming Sara said: "BMW should have been much more active.There was no urgency in the [recall] letter. That did not mean that you should not drive [the car] because it could catch on fire. "
In a statement, BMW said: "We were concerned about what had happened to Mr. Longley and our customer service was in close contact.
"We asked his insurer's authorization to conduct a thorough investigation as soon as possible to determine the cause of the fire."
