The interior minister said the government, together with the Prisons Council, was reviewing the non-custodial sentences regime to focus more on the rehabilitation aspect of prisons.
Ambrose Dery said the prisons were a very important institute, which needed help to ensure good rehabilitation, as well as for the training and skills development of prison inmates in the country.

He said that security was a collective responsibility and that the government could not deal with it alone, but with the support of all citizens.

He stated that the significance of the arcade and the guardhouse transcended the simple fact of adding grandeur and aesthetic values to the architectural landmarks of the prison headquarters.
He said that it would be, more importantly, enhance the effectiveness of the security control and monitoring of vehicle and pedestrian movements to headquarters premises.
Mr. Darko I said, "I am confident that we will behave responsibly to achieve the goal of its construction, while maintaining its quality for posterity."
Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, Ambbadador Extraordinary of Prisons, said the construction had embellished the headquarters and the barracks.
He congratulated the leaders of the Ghana Prison Service on their initiative to enhance the image of the Service.
