Eden Hazard joked about Thibaut Courtois' howler for the Belgian in the Euro 2020 qualifier against Russia on Thursday. Chelsea midfielder jokingly recommended his teammate from the national team to avoid dribbling as he is too big.
After Yuri Tielemans of Leicester City gave the Belgians the lead in the 14th minute, a scream from Courtois allowed Denis Cheryshev to equalize in the 16th minute. Courtois's mistake did not prove too expensive for Belgium as a double from Hazard allowed them to win the match 3-1.
Courtois perhaps looks at me too much. He wants to imitate me, but then things go wrong. He is too big and therefore he can not dribble! Joked Hazard, as reported by The Mirror.
"No, no problem: it can happen. We are not worried about Thibaut.
"I'm also happy with the game I played afterwards. I stayed calm, I'm happy with that. "
Courtois unfortunately left Chelsea last season to join Real Madrid. He had established himself as one of the best guardians of the world during his stay at Stamford Bridge. The transfer did not take place in good conditions and caused Courtois to lose the respect of many hard-liners.
Courtois has likely joined Los Blancos in the hope of regularly winning other trophies, especially the Champions League as the Spanish giants had won the previous three seasons and that he had never won at Chelsea.
However, things did not go exactly as planned during his first season in Madrid. The absence of Cristiano Ronaldo seems to have heavily weighed on the Santiago Bernabeu club. They were recently excluded from the Champions League by the Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam. They are also currently in third place in the La Liga standings and hardly threaten the first place, Barcelona.
To make matters worse for Courtois, he was dismissed for Zinedine Zidane's first game at the club's head last week against Celta Vigo. Zizou chose to recall Keylor Navas while Los Blancos won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Isco and Gareth Bale.
