Both buses – an ANKAI VVIP bus, bearing GT 3916-17 registration number, and a KIA Grand Bird bus, bearing registration number GT 5694-18 – carried about 60 pbadengers each, including children .

The VVIP bus, headed by 54-year-old Alexander Amoako, was traveling from Accra to Bolgatanga, while the KIA Grand Bird bus was traveling from Garu to Kumasi.

Most of the pbadengers died on the spot, while a number of them, seriously injured, were transported to Kintampo Hospital and Techiman Hospital Holy Family to be treated.

Police said that the KIA Grand Bird bus caught fire and was burned after the collision and that some pbadengers were burned.

According to the police, some pbadengers were stuck in or under the two buses and the staff of the Ghana National Fire Service had to cut portions of the buses to pick them up.

Charred bodies, personal belongings of the pbadengers and pieces of metal cut from the buses as a result of the severity of the collision were scattered at the scene of the accident, many people going to the scene to attend to the national tragedy.

Superintendent Stella, Regional Chief of the Traffic and Transport Department of Ghana Police, Brong Ahafo Sedame, told the Daily Graphic that the police had so far recorded 55 dead and 53 injured in the accident.

According to her, of the 55 dead, 35 died from being burned, while 13 of the 53 injured pbadengers were in critical conditions.

Superintendent Sedame explained that although 40 of the wounded are currently being treated in nearby hospitals, the 13 whose condition was critical had been referred to Techiman Holy Family Hospital for further treatment.

In the second accident, more than 30 people were reported dead yesterday at Ekumfi Dunkwa on the Winneba-Cape Coast road in the central region.

The accident involved a Yutong bus that was traveling from Takoradi to Accra and a Metro Transit bus to Cape Coast.

According to the Commander of the Central Regional Police, the Deputy Police Commissioner (DCOP), Paul Manly Awini, the wounded had been transported to the Hospital of Winneba Trauma and to the Catholic Hospital of Mankessim for treatment. while the bodies of the dead had been deposited in the two hospitals. for conservation.
