PARKVILLE, MO (KCTV) – The people of Parkville are ready for anything the Missouri River could throw at them.
"I'm uncomfortable, I'm uncomfortable, say that," said Theresa Bentley, co-owner of Bentley Guitar Studios.
Bentley fights the water with water.
"They are a bit soft, they are full of water," Bentley said of sandbags.
In his army, family and friends are eager to protect the guitars.
"755 feet above sea level is the front of our sidewalk," Bentley continued. "There are only a few more inches left before he enters our store.
The building is a hardened general. After more than 100 years on Parkville's main street, the Bentley hopes to be ready to fight.
"It's only about preparation, you minimize everything," Bentley said. "I can activate 5 very quickly."
On the front line, Bentley can see the water invade their roof. The mighty Missouri River is not kidding.
"It's kind of a moving race," Bentley said.
But the group has already been at war.
"We would be late now if we were in 1993," said Bentley.
And again in 2011. They will be the first to know.
"I would be scared if water came to the railroad," Bentley said.
