Luis Enrique defends Morata after the loss of Norway

The Atletico Madrid striker failed to score on six occasions while he prolonged an international drought that dates back to November 2017

Luis Enrique rejected the suggestion. Alvaro Morata lacks confidence after Spain's attack against Norway.

Spain started their qualifying campaign for Euro 2020 with a victory thanks to Sergio Ramos who scored a Morata penalty.

But the Atletico Madrid striker, loaned by Chelsea, failed to score despite six shots – more than any other player at Mestalla on Saturday.

A center from Dani Ceballos offered Morata the best opportunity to score their first international goal since November 2017, but the striker was turning away from the target.

Luis Enrique, however, thinks Morata turns his career after leaving Stamford Bridge to return to the Spanish capital on loan.

"I see him a lot better than when he was in Chelsea," Luis Enrique said at a press conference.

"He has always been great with us but he is more decisive now, keeping the ball at the end of this match for example.

"He did it with confidence, he had a lot of chances and he was what he had to be, he did not have a chance to do it, but he had a very good match, his best match with us so far. "

"It was a full match in which we created many opportunities and we dominated Norway, which tried to tackle decisively.

"We knew the match was going to be this way, but I'm really happy with the team's performance in every respect.

"I'd like to have scored 50% of our chances and we would have talked about a great result, but that's football. We can improve that by giving the players confidence."

Jesus Navas and Dani Parejo have been among the players to shine for Spain, which continues its qualifying campaign against Malta on Tuesday.

"He was very good, he lost some balls early," Luis Enrique told Parejo, the Valencia midfielder playing at home.

"But he's an icy player, he's not affected by the accuracy, he's smart, very happy to be with us."

On the veteran of Seville, Navas, who was impressed by the right-back, Luis Enrique added: "It is essential to have players in a team that overflows, and Navas has reached a spectacular level.

"He did not make a mistake, he defended well and attacked well, he focused well."
