Ecobank to train IFRC leaders in sustainable leadership

The Ecobank Academy is to train 150 leaders of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) from 45 African countries to strengthen their leadership skills to contribute to the development of communities that They serve.

A statement issued in Accra by Ecobank management announced yesterday that the three-day training course entitled "IFRC Africa Leadership Forum" was being delivered by Acobank Academy.

The academy provides development courses in world-clbad management and is the first pan-African business university, as well as one of the largest capacity development centers in Africa.

The purpose of the course is "Building the Leadership of African National Societies to Be Proud of It" and will include training on leadership skills, effective management of National Societies, partnership management, governance and accountability, risk management and controls, sustainability, integrity and transparency, youth and gender engagement and the opportunities of digitization.

Mr. Simon Rey, Head of the Ecobank Academy Group, and Mr. Carl Manlan, Chief Operating Officer of the Ecobank Foundation, said: "The Ecobank Academy and the Ecobank Foundation have worked closely with the IFRC to develop courses. training for their national leadership skills such as governance, accountability and sustainability.

"We have built a strong relationship with the IFRC and it is extremely rewarding to be able to play a role in their hard-working work for communities in distress."

Assessment of the IFRC

For her part, Dr. Fatoumata Nafo-Traoré, IFRC Regional Director for Africa, said: "At the IFRC, we recognize that leadership is about solving problems. The training that our African leaders will receive from the Ecobank Academy will allow them to successfully find solutions to the challenges they face. "

"Ecobank's support in this area, and in many other ways, is proving to be a valuable badet for our work in the fight against health, disasters and crises affecting communities on the African continent."

Ecobank and the IFRC signed a partnership agreement in November 2018 to work closely together to empower local communities to deal with disasters more effectively.

In addition to training, Ecobank leverages its digital banking and QR code capabilities to boost IFRC fundraising.

Affiliates of Ecobank have taken initiatives on behalf of the National Societies of the IFRC. They have established digital membership registries and registration processes.
