In a rematch of the 2018 playoffs, the local team has escaped a late winner, while the defending champion, Supporters' Shield, has left a rare result at home.
Los Angeles FC took revenge against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night by scoring a time out to win 2-1.
RSL eliminated LAFC from the MLS playoffs in 2018, prompting Latif Blessing of LAFC to promise that it was "payback time" earlier in the week.
But Damir Kreilach scored to score the goal of scoring 1-0 for RSL in 35 minutes.

The Red Bulls of New York lost Saturday against Orlando City, their first win of the season.
This was the league's first defeat in 2019 for the Red Bulls, who only lost twice at home in 2018, while they were attacking the Supporters' Shield.
The former Red Bull Sacha Kljestan was the hero of the evening for visitors. He knocked home a center from Joao Moutinho to give Orlando a 1-0 lead in the 73rd.
Carlos Ascues also made a great place in Orlando with an acrobatic clearance when Daniel Royer seemed to have equalized the situation for New York with a header three minutes later.
The loss was the first at home for New York since July 28 of last year.
The Colorado Rapids have still not won the season after losing 2-1 to FC Dallas on Saturday.
Michael Barrios opened the scoring for Dallas at 35th, but Tommy Smith was able to place the Rapids' level in 69th place, paving the way for a late winner for the home team.

Ryan Hollingshead provided that winner in 82nd place, pushing home the rebound of Zdenek Ondrasek's rebound to give Dallas his second win of the young season.
A double from David Accam allowed the Philadelphia Union to win a comfortable 3-0 win over Columbus Crew.
Accam scored his two goals before the break, Ilsinho added a third just after half-time to ensure the result and put back to the Union their first win of the season.
