After the rise of lawlessness and acts of violence in several parts of the country, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo revealed that his government was planning to secure three helicopters on behalf of the Ghana police.

According to the President, this provision is intended to facilitate the operations of the Ghanaian police aimed at curbing crime and the many acts of lawlessness committed in the country.

To complete the purchase of these three helicopters, President Akufo-Addo said his government had also planned to train a number of police officers selected as pilots.

"Three helicopters are being purchased to facilitate police operations with selected police officers who should be trained as pilots," the president said.

He also referred to the various arrangements his administration had made for the Ghana Police Service, including the 320 vehicles already provided and 273 additional vehicles still to be delivered.

Reacting to the issue of promotions within the Ghanaian police, President Akufo-Addo pointed out that the issue of police officers having to wait more than the required number of years before the scheduled date for their promotion has been resolved.

"Under this administration, the era when an officer remains unchallenged more than the prescribed four years is over," said the president.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo addressed the West African Security Services Association (WASSA) of the Ghana Police Service on Friday, 22 March.
