Zimbabwe and DR Congo qualified for 2019 Afcon Group G

Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat, Zimbabwean captain, sent the Warriors to the Afcon final after their 2-0 win over Congo Brazzaville at the national sports stadium in Harare on Sunday.

This result allowed Zimbabwe to score two points ahead of DR Congo, second in the standings, who beat Liberia 1-0 at the same time in Kinshasa. Cedric Bakambu scored the only goal of the match in the 52nd minute.

While Zimbabwe only needed a draw to compete in the Afcon final, he beat Congo convincingly.

Billiat opened the scoring for the Warriors with a well-timed free match in the 20th minute after Nyasha Munetsi was fouled just outside the box.

Musona doubled Zimbabwe's lead 36 minutes after taking advantage of a defensive error by visitors to score their fifth goal in the qualifying campaign.

Congolese defender Le Havre, Fernand Mayembo, had not managed a dangerous pbad from his goalkeeper Wolfringon Mongondza, to allow Musona to fall behind.

The visitors tried to come back in the match in the second half, but Zimbabwe goalkeeper George Chigova kept the hosts in the match with nice saves.

In addition, Bakambu's second-half goal allowed the Democratic Republic of Congo to beat Liberia. At the dawn of this third ranked match in the pool, the DR Congo has risen to prevent Liberia from visiting Egypt in 2019.

A draw was all that Liberia needed to qualify for the tournament, but the Bakambu strike put an end to their dreams.
