A report by the Ghana Road Safety Commission (NRSC) identified "indiscipline" as the leading cause of road accident in Ghana.

The report was written following a series of road accidents in February 2018, when President Nana Akufo-Addo instructed the Ministers of the Interior and Roads and Highways to propose measures to counter this threat.

The report, submitted to the president, identified "indiscipline" as the main contributing factor to road accidents.

This was announced Sunday during a press briefing by Ms. May Obiri-Yeboah, NRSC Executive Director.

According to her, the indiscipline is related to speed of travel, overtaking, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, long driving periods, non-compliance with the law. Highway Code by motorists and the non-wearing of the helmet.

The report also recommended transforming the NRSC into an authority to deal with carnage on our roads.

And a budget support of 6.5 million GHC to the commission to strengthen education, awareness and public education.

Another recommendation concerns the deployment of cameras and the removal of vehicles that are out of service.
