NOTABLE ELIMINATIONS:
* Courtney Penry (Ryan Seacrest, true love) was ready to "drop the pieces where they could". Unfortunately, they did not fall in his favor. I had a bad feeling about this performance when she started crying, and these worries were confirmed when Penry forgot the lyrics of her song halfway through. It's for the best – she would have been eaten alive during the group rounds.
* I was a little more surprised to see Ashton Gill, who auditioned with Laine Hardy as her backup guitarist, cut before the group rounds. Her performance of "I can not make you love" was not very exciting, but I appreciated her trust in me and I really thought she would take it to the next level.
* After capturing the collective heart of America with her tragic story of becoming a widow at age 27, Lauren Engle hoped to catch our attention with a performance of Carrie Underwood's "Jesus Take the Wheel". Unfortunately, her nerves took over her and the judges were forced to drop her.
* Other singers we lost before the group rounds: Martine fishing, Jorgie (of Jorgie and Jorgies fame), and sergeant instructor Landen Knowlton.
* Then come the group rounds, which sent a hoof dancer Zebulon "Zeb" Spencer and teen titan Chloe Channell packaging.
* One of the most ridiculous victims of group rounds was Jade Flores, who dreams of becoming the first Hispanic country singer. Honestly, I'm lost. "Stronger" suited her voice perfectly, and she killed him completely. The fact that the judges placed Juan Pablo in front of Jade is nonsense.
* I was also sad – but not at all surprised – to see Colby Swift get the start (pun). His solo performance was a bit fragile, but the judges sent him to the group rounds according to his potential. Maybe if Colby had worn his lucky boots, rather than the new pair that Luke had given him, he might have recalled the words "Grenada". Instead, he … well … bombed.
* And Luc was devastated for having to announce the bad news Ethan Payne, who for the first time met the country's star through Make-a-Wish a few years ago. In this case, the choice of the song (Florida Georgia Line and Bebe Rexha's "Meant to Be") was perfect – but the performance was not. "It broke my heart," Ethan said of his hero who sent him home. "But I still love him."
