A mini truck carrying marijuana hidden in charcoal bags crashed Saturday morning, killing the driver and his driver instantly.

The accident occurred around 5 am on the Accra-Kumasi highway after the driver reportedly ignored the signal from a member of the security personnel asking him for safety. Stop at a checkpoint located around Linda Dor Rest Stop.

Witnesses testified that while the driver was fleeing the security personnel, he had lost control of the truck as he was negotiating a turn near Anyinam in the East region, doing so. Crush on another truck registered AS 992-S.

The truck carrying marijuana and charcoal was unrecoverable and some of its parts, including the front axle that stood out on the road. The other truck fell to the side, blocking the road.

This resulted in a dead end at the crash site for nearly an hour because no vehicles crossed over on both sides of the highway.

The police arrived at the scene later to remove the body of the driver and his companion and to tow the two trucks to allow traffic.

A search of the vehicle, which many thought was carrying charcoal, revealed that marijuana bags, commonly known as "week", had been hidden under the charcoal.
