Jose Mourinho explains why he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will not win the Champions League in 2019

Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho fired Tottenham Hotspur and the other Premier League clubs in the Champions League quarter-finals as credible contenders to lift the trophy in May.

The Spurs will face Mancehster City in the last eight games while Liverpool will face Porto while Manchester United will face Barcelona. Juventus are opposed to Ajax, whose decisive victory over Real Madrid in the round of 16 was one of the highlights of the competition this season.

Mourinho is currently unemployed as a manager since the dismissal of United in December, three years after his second dismissal at the head of Chelsea.

He has become an expert over the last few weeks and was asked who should be considered the favorite to win the highest European club football prize in 2019.

"My favorites? I would say that Juve and Barcelona," he told AFP, as reported by CalcioMercato. "Everyone is talking about [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi but I prefer to talk about Juve and Barca. "

On the Premier League clubs and the two outsiders, including Porto, with whom he won the competition for the first time in 2004, he was less positive.

"The English teams, Ajax and Porto are also good teams but they do not have the same experience," Mourinho said.

"When you have Ronaldo or Messi, it gives you a big plus."

Last season, Tottenham beat Real Madrid Ronaldo and in December 2018, allowed Barcelona to draw (1-1) at Camp Nou.

However, their hopes of reaching the final stages of the competition last year were shattered by a loss to Juventus in the round of 16.

Mauricio Pochettino has already mentioned his desire to use the new Tottenham stadium as a secret weapon to defeat Manchester City and reach the semifinals with the support of his supporters.

It will then be up to the Argentine to prove that Mourinho is wrong, because the Spurs would probably meet Juventus in the last four games if they beat Pep Guardiola's side.
