Scott Walker dies at the age of 76

Scott Walker, one of the most influential characters from pop of the 60s, has pbaded away.

Its 4AD label confirmed the news in a statement this morning.

"For half a century, the genius of the born Christmas man Scott Engel has enriched the lives of thousands of people," reads the statement.

"From teen idol to cultural icon, Scott leaves future generations an extraordinary musical legacy. brilliant lyricist with a haunting singing voice, he was one of the most revered innovators in the field of creative music, whose influence on many artists has been freely recognized. "

"The breadth and dynamism of his vision added a dimension to film and dance, and he astonished the audience with music whose composition transcends genre and whose pure originality defies cataloguation."

At this point, the cause of death has not been revealed.

Born in 1943, Noah Scott Engel, Walker grew up in California and changed his name when he formed the Walker Brothers with John Maus, who was renamed John Walker.

Convinced by drummer Gary Leeds to settle in a bustling London, the Walker Brothers have broken through two major hits, Make It Easy On Yourself and The Sun Is Not Gonna Shine (Anymore). While it was blankets, Scott was also writing material for the group, which was dissolved in 1967.

Walker's solo career has been more and more experimental over the years – The Drift, released in 2006, featured the sound of meat being punched – starting with a psychedelic side, leading to outings infrequent, but always welcome.

Between two solo releases, the Walker Brothers also re-formed and recorded in the '70s, while Walker also wrote several film scores.
