For the first time in the history of law enforcement in the country, the Ghana Police Service (GPS) will soon own three helicopters, while the government has begun procurement processes for helicopters.
During the GPS celebration by the West African Security Services Association (WASSA), President Akufo-Addo said the helicopters would improve the operational capability of the service.
He said some police officers would be trained as pilots for helicopters.
The WASSA celebration is a rally organized to allow security services to dine, entertain and take stock of their past activities.

President Akufo-Addo, who was the guest of honor, told the police that the government would work with the police to ensure the safety of citizens in accordance with the law.

"The construction of 320 homes for officers of the National Training Academy is underway, and the government has again provided 320 vehicles to the police department and 273 will be delivered soon," he revealed.
Promotion and recruitment
The President recalled what his government had done in terms of GPS promotions since taking office in 2017, noting that more than 1,502 senior police officers and 18,853 junior officers had been trained.
"Four thousand police officers have been recruited into the service and 2,000 are already in training.
"Today, under this administration, the time when the officers remain unchallenged more than the four years prescribed is over," he added.
The question of law and order is particularly necessary this time around, because anarchy, kidnappings, killings, badaults by and against police and vigilantism threaten the state of right, according to him.
