Singer Barbra Streisand apologized after being criticized for sympathizing with Michael Jackson following charges of child abuse against him.

Streisand told The Times newspaper that she believed in the allegations against the deceased superstar, while claiming that her actions "did not kill" the accusers.

She then wrote on Instagram that she was "deeply sorry for any pain or misunderstanding" caused.

The Jackson brothers denied that the singer had badually abused children.

The charges were made in a new documentary – Leaving Neverland – featuring the testimony of two men, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who claim to have been mistreated hundreds of times by Michael Jackson, aged 7 to 10.

When asked if she believed Mr. Robson and Mr. Safechuck, Ms. Streisand replied "absolutely".

But she continued, "His badual needs were his badual needs, stemming from his childhood or his DNA.

"You can say 'molest', but these kids, as you've heard it say [Robson and Safechuck]they were delighted to be there. They got married and they both have children, so it did not kill them. "

Streisand said that she felt bad for both the children and Jackson, adding, "I guess I blame the parents, who would allow their children to sleep with him."

She later stated in a statement that she thought the parents of the two young men "were also victimized and seduced by fame and fantasy".

"To be perfectly clear, there is no situation or situation where it is acceptable for the innocence of a child to be exploited by anyone," his statement said.

She also wrote in an article on social media that she "did not want to in any way dismiss the trauma suffered by these boys".

Jackson had been sued by allegations of child abuse prior to his death in 2009 – allegations that he had denied.

In 2003, police raided her Neverland Ranch in California while she was investigating allegations that he molested a 13-year-old boy. He was acquitted of all charges in 2005.
