Gridco fell GRIDCo suspects that the collapse of the pylon at Tema was an act of vandalism and not an attempted robbery

One of the transmission towers near the headquarters of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) in Tema fell into another tower.

GRIDCo officials discovered the tower fell on Monday morning and found that the bolts holding the pylon had been loosened, causing it to fall.

Before the discovery, Accra's customers in Kumasi were facing power outages.

At the present time, GRIDCo strongly suspects that the collapse of the Tema pylon was an act of vandalism and not an attempted robbery.

In an interview with Citi News, Mark Baah, Director of Systems Operations, said, "The tower has actually been vandalized. It was not like someone had gone flying, but we could see that the bolts and nuts were deliberately cut and we did not know who would do it anymore. "

"The control center found a failure of the transmission line. As a result, some clients are immediately arrested, not only in Accra and Tema, but as far away as Kumasi. They tried to restore power and understood that it was a permanent fault, "he said.

Although the failed tower does not affect the current during the day, some areas of the country may be facing failures, said Mark Baah.

He added, however, that the company would strive to minimize the impact on consumers.

"During off-peak hours, we have no problem, but the problem could come from the power supply during rush hours in the evening and we will do everything we can to minimize the impact."

GRIDCo has since opened investigations into the circumstances that led to the vandalism of one of the transmission pylons.
